Here at KSG, we live by one rule: “Kester Search Group exists to build great companies.” But we can’t build great companies without being a great company. We owe our success to passion, grit, and strong will, and that simply wouldn’t be possible without our greatest asset – our people. A strong company culture is something that we work on every day, and it’s something you can incorporate into your business as well.
Keep on Learning, and Keep on Teaching
We’ve shown you how we expand our knowledge through podcasts, books, and other resources on our FYI page, but it doesn’t stop there. Research shows that a majority of employees would like more training on the job, but most don’t even ask for it. That’s why it’s important for supervisors to reach out to employees regularly to ask what they need and how you can help. Not only does it encourage open communication, but it allows employees to maximize their potential in the workplace.
Be Flexible
The key ingredient to a strong culture is happy employees, and you’d be surprised that a pay raise isn’t your employees’ top-ranked perk. Flexibility is a major component that can reduce stress and lead to a higher employee retention rate, and can be defined in numerous ways. Simply allowing employees to work remotely or have a flexible schedule can increase productivity and happiness. Look at what this FRACTL survey of 2,000 US workers found.
Embrace the Unknown
You can’t learn or grow without experience. Simple ways we incorporate this into our work schedule is by watching a video every Monday that sparks dialogue and allows us to think from a new perspective, sharing new podcasts or books with one another, and bringing in outsiders to give us insight on what we can do better. Regular “lunch-and-learns” are a wonderful way to incorporate this into your team’s strategy for developing a strong culture. Don’t know where to start? This article will help.
Most importantly – have fun!
It can be easy to get swept up in the stress of deadlines, big projects, and everyday life, so that’s why it’s important that we give ourselves a break. We love team happy hour, volunteering together, or just getting lunch with one another. Not only does this help us relieve stress, but it fosters positive relationships and encourages collaboration in the workplace. There are millions of ways to relax and have fun out of the office, so it’s time to get creative!
There are so many ways to improve upon company culture, but we’ve found these to be the most practical, effective ways that have kept our people happy and our business growing. Do you have any tips for us? We’d love to hear them!
